Middle School Math Teacher Kathy Kaplan Honored with Lee Flaxer Award
SEF is pleased to announce that Sharon Middle School math teacher Kathy Kaplan is the 2019-2020 Lee Flaxer Award Recipient. Mrs. Kaplan is a teacher who is loved by peers and students alike, has the ability to make meaningful, lasting connections with students and who has always served as a leader both of students and staff. Mrs. Kaplan not only excels at teaching, but she also does so much more, including starting and coaching the Middle School Track Team, creating the Math Team, planning and organizing overnight field trips and charity drives and running the makeup crew for the middle school plays. She’s a mentor to new teachers and an inspiration to her colleagues. SEF is honored to have awarded this year’s Lee Flaxer award to Mrs. Kaplan.
This award is given in the spirit of Lee Flaxer, who served as principal of Heights Elementary School for many years. She was an outstanding leader who demonstrated that compassion and caring were essential to a positive learning atmosphere. The recipient of this award should be a person who has had an impact on the lives of children through dedication and personal involvement.
